The Good Doctor - 2011 ****

A completely overlooked little gem that I never even noticed had been released. But a thoroughly disappointing performance from Orlando Bloom. I am aware that his character is supposed to be a bit of a psychopath with but that doesn't mean he has to comes across as though he's in a real life coma.
Dr Martin Blake is a good doctor. He also appears charming and courteous, when in reality he is arrogant, conceited and has an overinflated ego that needs constant massaging. This quickly makes him unpopular with the other staff at the hospital, especially after he comes across as rather unpleasant to his first few patients. His superiors come down on him like a ton of bricks, and it's only when a new patient named Diane comes in for treatment of a kidney infection that he ups his game. He is made even more arrogant when Diane's family begin to praise him and invite him round to dinner to thank him for helping their daughter. The problem is, the reason he is being so attentive is that he has become obsessed with Diane, and will go to any extreme to keep her with him, even if it means keeping her sick.
I do on the whole like 'obsessive' films, and I did enjoy this, but it just felt very let down by Bloom. 4 stars for the story, and 2 stars for Orlando Bloom.
