Arbitrage - 2012 ****

One of those thrillers you pop on because you think there might not be anything better, but I ended up being surprisingly gripped throughout. Although Gere is maybe playing past his peak he is still remarkably watchable.
Exceedingly rich magnate Robert is about to sell the hedge fund that he has been managing with his daughter Brooke, but unbeknownst to his family he has been secretly altering the books to cover up an investment loss which could lead to him being arrested. At the same time he has been carrying on an affair with his beautiful mistress Julia which is becoming increasingly more and more inconvenient to him. One evening however, after a late night out, Robert is driving Julia home when he falls asleep at the wheel and crashes the car. When he awakes, Julia is dead, and he leaves the crash site without informing anyone except an old acquaintance named Jimmy whom he helped in the past. From then on, Robert must try to cover up the events of that evening from everybody, regardless of the cost.
A very good film, and a very good ending. Liked it a lot.
