Such a simple idea, yet only a select few actors could pull this off. Tom Hardy is one of them, and he delivers a passionate performance here as Ivan Locke. Except for the odd phone call, Hardy manages to pull off this entire film by himself which is a clever trait in an actor. He has such an intense character that you forget after a while that it is simply him in a car driving.
Ivan Locke has left work and is on the way to the maternity hospital to witness the birth of his child. The problem is, the child's mother is not his wife, but his mistress.
He has a number of calls throughout his journey, from his boss, his wife, his mistress and his children. Over the course of the evening, events take a downhill spiral and his life will never be the same again.
I loved the simplicity of this, and Hardy's powerful performance. Proof that you don't need a ridiculously convoluted plot to make a great film.
